State Street School does “Whatever It Takes” to ensure a rigorous, supportive environment that develops assertive learners who persevere with integrity and contribute to their community. The State Street staff lives by this inspiring mission statement! Each day when students walk into our learning community it is obvious that we expect children to grow in their social awareness, and as students to grow in their academic achievement. Our mascot is the SHARK! which stands for Safe, Honest, Assertive, Responsible, Kind and !Perseverance. We teach, model and encourage these values in our students each and every day. Our classrooms are rich with a highly qualified staff and appropriate resources to instruct children in literacy and mathematics. Social studies is embedded in our literature. Science is taught using an inquiry approach utilizing hands-on science kits in partnership with the University of Rhode Island. All staff are trained in Second Step and Zones of Regulation programs to support social/emotional learning during a daily morning meeting. We are proud of the academic growth each student makes and the many systems and structures we use to monitor each child’s personal growth. Our students set their growth targets, reflect on their learning and celebrate their academic achievements. Our vision, all students will grow a year or more in ELA and Mathematics because they have self-regulation strategies to optimize their learning, is our reality. The SHARK!s will have a new home soon. We are excited to announce the opening of a brand new school on our current property in 2026! Thank you for being a partner in education!
